What is TELEPSYCHIATRY?
Telemedicine is the process of providing health care from a distance through technology, often using video conferencing. Telepsychiatry, a subset of telemedicine can involve providing a range of services including psychiatric evaluations, therapy (individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy), patient education and medication management.
Telepsychiatry is the direct interaction between a provider and the patient. It also encompasses psychiatric providers supporting primary care providers with mental health care consultation and expertise. Mental health care can be delivered in live, interactive communication. It can also involve recording medical information (images, videos, etc.) and sending this to a distant site for later review.
Telepsychiatry is an exciting development in our mental health field. It offers an affordable, simple way to revolutionize the mental healthcare industry and provide on-demand mental health support to individuals with a range of needs. In addition, telepsychiatry can also make getting psychiatric care a more convenient experience for patients, and prevent missed appointments when things come up.
If you meet the criteria for Telepsychiatry service, you will have to sign a consent.
We provide Telepsychiatry (online) visits for ages 18 and up. This is a convenient option when in-person sessions are not possible or practical. We provide secure, confidential, encrypted video sessions through your smartphone, tablet, or personal computer. Clients must reside in the State of Texas at the time of service due to licensure laws. Telepsychiatry is not a good option for people with complex problems or who are in a crisis.
Most major health insurance plans now include equal coverage for video sessions, but please call your carrier to verify that telemedicine/telehealth sessions are covered under your specific plan so we can apply to be on a panel with your insurance carrier. Preliminary research shows that video sessions are just as effective as in-person ones, but we understand that they are not for everyone.
You may call the clinic to check to see if this service is an appropriate fit for your situation or circumstance. Scheduling works much like scheduling an in-person appointment: please call 940-277-2400 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. We will gather your insurance information (if applicable) and a credit card to keep on file. We will instruct you how to download a free, HIPAA-compliant video conferencing app called Doxy.me, where your provider will call you at the agreed upon time. After the session, we will bill your insurance, charge any balance to the credit card on file, and email you a receipt and a confirmation of your next appointment time.
